Man with a gift

Wednesday, February 13, 2008

Dear Editor,

Heaven gained another soul this week.

So much more than a farmer, he, as many in his generation, served during World War II. This man, however, had a gift. See, many own tools and can use them, but Bill was a craftsman.

A hunk of metal in his hands could be turned into any tool or weapons that made even experts step back and say "Well done."

You know he was above the crowd when a very rich man had his own large private plane fly into McCook. At that time it was the largest plane to land in McCook.

He ask Bill to work on the gun he planned to take to Africa, and also had Bill make from scratch, 500 shells for this gun, as no company made the 45- 110 Sharps bullets any longer.

As for a real gift, that was to be invited to his farm to hunt rats. Within an hour, the inner circle would have killed easily a pickup load of rats around his hog operation with 22-cal. bird shot.

He with friends and family had a dynamite shoot yearly that people from hundreds of miles came to see and enjoy. Heaven will be a more lively place with Bill there.

Bill Donze,

McCook
