Letter to the Editor

We're all targets

Wednesday, January 2, 2008

Dear Editor,

In reference to "Group opposes in-town site," the article made the hair on my neck itch. I pray I am reading the article wrong, but fear I see ignorance and bigotry, of a sort, involved here.

I loved that bit saying our National Guard and Army Reserve "are potential targets for terrorist attacks." I didn't know we had any military bases located in the Twin Towers. Hmmm!

Don't look now folks, but we all are targets for terrorism, especially the civilian part of "we." Terrorist groups want to kill the easiest target they can, which means they much prefer to kill civilians, and fight military only if they must.

Ponder this please: Should we need to defend McCook with military force, would we be safer with our military inside town, or six miles north, where all the warfare tools and material would be located?

In my opinion, the most critical location, requiring protection, is the airport, and the best way to do that is if the facility is located very near that location. Without a way to receive supplies, such as medical, food, weapons, and ammunition, McCook would not last long.

Ask the military-type people where a facility should be to best defend McCook, and (they) may well have to in the not-to-distant future.
