Arapahoe boys, girls fall in home tourney openers

ARAPAHOE -- The Arapahoe Holiday Basketball Tourney tipped off Thursday.

The host Warriors played Pleasanton in Games 3 and 4, while Red Cloud and Sumner-Eddyville-Miller battled it out in Games 1 and 2.

Arapahoe fell to Pleasanton in both the boys and girls games. Red Cloud also won both divisions against SEM.

The Warrior boys fell to Pleasanton 54-45. Jordan Spaulding led the Warriors with 15 points and had six 2-point shots and was 3 for 6 in free throws.

Dillon Breinig followed with 11 points and TJ Eichenberger had 10. Echeinberger also had 5 two-pointers and Breinig and Adam Snyder both had 4.

Elijah Zwiener led Pleasanton with 18 points and Kyle Giffin had 10.

Arapahoe's girls came up short 48-42 to Pleasanton. Cheryl Braithwait was the leading scorer for the Warriors with 21 points.

Brittany Fanning followed with 14 and Michele Borden had 4.

Braithwait had 6 two-point shots and 3 three-pointers. Borden had 2 two-pointers and Fanning had 4 three-point shots. Ashley Moore led in the team in free throws going 1 for 2.

Ashley Axman led Pleasanton to the win with 20 points. Cortni Shoemaker had 12 and Laurel Zwiener had 11 points.

Red Cloud's girls blasted SEM 50-24. Katie Danehey posted 14 points, Anna Ebely had 11 and Katy Meline had 10 for Red Cloud. Megan Beig led SEM with 8 points and Emily Ibach had 6.

Red Cloud's boys took the win over SEM 56-44. Aaron Wescoat totaled 16 points for Red Clouds win and Wes Olson had 12. Parker Gilbert added in 11 points. Jake Rohde made 12 points for SEM and Evan Ibach had 11.

The final games of the tourney begin tonight with both Arapahoe's boys and girls battling it out with SEM for third place and Pleasanton and Red Cloud squaring off for the Holiday title.

The third-place girls and boys games will be played at 1:45 p.m. and 3:30 p.m., followed by the girls and boys championships at 5:15 p.m. and 7 p.m.
