Fourth marks turning point for summertime plans
By all accounts, it was a successful holiday, with family and community activities galore, followed by spectacular fireworks against clear skies.
Now, how about we all take stock of the street in front of our houses, cleaning up our fireworks debris and safely disposing of the duds.
While we're at it, how about taking time to pull those stray weeds before they get too tall, and hey, let's not forget to take down those signs from our last garage sale.
Summer has just got a good start, but we know from experience that time flies after the Fourth of July, so we'd better get serious about accomplishing those warm weather projects.
But don't overdo it.
With the temperatures expected to push the century mark over the next few days, don't let your desire to make your home and yard more presentable overcome your common sense.
Take it easy out there in the heat, and drink plenty of nonalcoholic liquids.
