Furnas County Seniors improve mark to 12-0

HILDRETH -- The Furnas County Seniors American Legion team defeated the Thompson Creek Seniors (Franklin, Hildreth, Wilcox) 14-3 Wednesday night in a five-inning contest.

Pitcher Ryan Eder did not allow an earned as he gave up only four hits, two walks, two hit batsmen while fanning six.

Furnas County committed five errors in the first two innings which enabled the Thompson Creek nine to cross the plate three times.

Jackson Johnson and Lance Korte both had good nights protecting the plate as they both connected for two hits, a double and two RBI.

Colton Cochran had a double and three RBI, Josh Keener had one hit and two RBI, while Tom Larson, Andrew Winscot, and Bo Cribelli had singles. The win improves the season record to 12 wins and 0 losses.

The Furnas County Seniors look to have a top seed in their area tournament which will be hosted by the Cambridge Legion Post No. 199.

The tournament dates are July 19-28.

Teams expected to compete for a birth in the Class C state tournament in Geneva are Alma, Chappell, Elwood, Furnas County, Overton, Ravenna, Shelton/Gibbon and Thompson Creek.

Furnas Juniors fall

to Thompson Creek

Thompson Creek (Franklin, Hildreth, Wilcox) handed the Furnas County Juniors their fifth loss of the season 7-4 Wednesday night.

A late-inning rally fell short as the local nine had the tying run on first base but was unable to get the ball out of the infield and left the bases loaded

Dalton Hyke started on the hill and pitched well before being lifted in the third due to an injury. Cletus Macke worked the last three innings.

Gus Petersen doubled. Delvin Jackson and Andrew McCurdy both had singles.
