Sertoma All-Star Volleyball Classic: West takes five games from East

The West All-Stars dominated the East squad Saturday night in the 16th annual Sertoma All-Star Volleyball Classic at the McCook High School gymnasium.

The West swept the five-game match 25-18, 25-13, 25-20, 25-15, 15-7 and leads the series 10-6.

The West has won five of the last six matches.

North Platte's Jordan Hedgecock was named the West Most Valuable Player. She had 6 kills, 13 digs and 2 ace serves.

Southwest's Chelsey Quigley was named the East MVP. She had 2 ace blocks, 4 kills, 7 digs and 2 ace serves for the East squad.

Quigley, who will play volleyball at McCook Community College in the fall, said she had fun.

"It was a blast," she said. "It didn't matter who I played for."

Jennifer Baker of Hitchcock County and Bill Wilson of Dundy County coached the West Team. Rachelle Chamberlain of Eustis-Farnam and Les Reinke of Maxwell coached the East team.

Proceeds from the event are used by the McCook Area Sertoma Club to help purchase equipment to provide speech and hearing screenings in the area schools and day care centers.
