Letter to the Editor

Last letter from the UK

Monday, April 30, 2007

Dear Editor,

I would like to address the letter written by Ronald Cumming (27th April '07); at least I assume it is me who should be responding, as there don't appear to be many "ladies from England" writing to you!

I understand that history is important as a reference point to help us learn and grow, but I don't include it in my considerations of what is just or otherwise right now. I feel strongly that the war in Iraq is wrong, I feel there are no reasons to be there, I feel the world is less safe now because of our presence there and I feel we have to end it now. After all, it WILL end and the real difference between now and when it actually does, is the number of dead.

You have your reasons for believing we must continue to fight Ronald and I have my reasons for believing we should never have gone to Iraq and why we need to leave as quickly as possible.

For me, these facts are the relevant ones: Iraq has not attacked the US.  There are no WMD's in Iraq (we knew this -- see Downing Street Memos). Iraq had nothing to do with 9/11 ... the U.S. government says Osama from Afghanistan did it and never blamed Iraq or anyone from there.

We have made a mistake and we need to stop making it, because it is making terrorists of freedom fighters and creating the very war on/of terror it is supposed to stop. As to political correctness, perceived past mistakes and perceived past victories -- I think that they cloud the real issues and have no relevance.

It is a shame we can't see eye to eye, but such is life and I am sure that as time goes on and more information is made available, that we will find ourselves in agreement at some point. In the meantime, I wish you well.

Namaste,

Tina Louise
