Dear Editor,

Many years ago my grandmother, a newspaper publisher, told me it was not true about the saying: "Sticks and stones may break my bones but words will never harm me."

The right word can give heart to a person or tear it out. In the 20 years of reading "The Gazette," other publications or radio, we learn to make decisions about intake.

What works best for me when absorbing the public pulse is to first read the name at the bottom of the article. I have found that it takes much less time and frustration.

Now, on to a another subject.

The public dedication of Russell Park last week was very positive. As the family was being recognized, the sounds of playing children filled the background like beautiful music. Everyone was happy.

The park concept brought the community together as they worked through the challenges step by step. The Russell families, city employees, McCook Community Found-ation, neighbors and community completed the full orchestra.

Thank you to the news media for excellent coverage of a positive nature. Thank you all for the positive music.

God Bless America

Don Harpst,

McCook
