IMPERIAL --?Verna Anderson, 88, died Monday (March 19, 2007) at the Chase County Community Hospital in Imperial.

Verna (Samuelson) Anderson was born Nov. 1, 1918, to Oscar and Le Ella (Heiser) Samuelson, at Ogallala. She acquired her elementary education only 1/4 of a mile from her home in the South Platte River Valley. She graduated from Brule High School with the class of 1936.

On July 3, 1936, she was united in marriage to Andrew Anderson in Gering. Their first home was on her grandfather Samuelson's ranch located in what is now known as Lake McConaughy in the North Platte River Valley. In 1940, they were forced to leave the Valley due to government condemnation of the land. They then moved to a ranch in Hayes County and later to Wauneta, where she remained until her death.

She was a member of the United Methodist Church of Wauneta and the United Methodist Women.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Andy in 2000; daughter, Diana Doetker in 2004; grandson, Andrew Robert Anderson; two sisters; and a brother.

Survivors include her sons, Ted Anderson and wife, Carolyn of Wauneta and Harold (Peco) Anderson and wife, Doretta of Wauneta; son-in-law, Gary Doetker of Wauneta; five grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

Funeral services will be Thursday 10:30 a.m. (MT) at the United Methodist Church of Wauneta, with the Rev. Judy Dye officiating. Interment will follow at Riverside Cemetery in Wauneta.

Visitation will be Wednesday from 2-6 p.m. (MT) at Liewer Funeral Home in Wauneta.

Memorials may be given to the American Legion Post No. 304 and the United Methodist Women both of Wauneta.
