Back to Home Ec

Friday, March 16, 2007

Dear Editor,

I enjoyed the feature story "Mrs.America 1955" by Billie Cole. It reminded me of my freshman Home Ec class in early 1950. We were required to iron a shirt (not permapress), sew an apron, plus plan and cook meals. Wonder if our teacher, Mrs. Hoffaber, realized she was grooming us for the Mrs. America Contest?

These skills were useful, as I and many of my classmates raised our families, even if we did not enter the contest.

Alice Harpst,

McCook
