MCC teams fall at Region IX tourney

The 2006-07 season came to an end for the McCook Community College men's and women's basketball teams in the first round of their respective Region IX Tournaments.

The MCC men lost to Northeastern Junior College, the No. 4-ranked team in NJCAA Division I 77-51 Saturday in the Region IX men's tournament at Scottsbluff.

The MCC women lost to No. 8-ranked Western Nebraska 79-55 Sunday at Casper, Wyo.

The MCC men finished the season with a 14-17 record and the MCC women, who won the Nebraska Community College Athletic Conference title, posted an 11-16 mark.

Clint Napoleon led the MCC men with 20 points. Kyle Wamsley added 12 points and 5 rebounds.

Omar Leary led NJC with 15 points, 5 assists and 2 steals. Rashad Austin added 13 points, 10 rebounds and 1 steal.

Kamillia Brown, a University of Nebraska-Omaha signee, led the MCC women with 19 points. Sadiyyah Guilford added 11.

Sophomores playing their final game in an MCC men's uniform were Trey Harris, Jeremy Mallard, Noel Cardinelli, Napoleon, Shea Scarlett, Wamsley, Mark Versen and Christian Lewis.

MCC sophomore women playing their final games for the Indians were Staci Moore (Cambridge High School alum), Sarah Hector, Brown, Amanda Terpstra and Guilford.
