Area teams have postseason dreams

As the basketball season winds down several area boys and girls teams are showing up in the class rankings.

The girls sub-districts begin today and the boys start next week.

Eustis-Farnam and Cambridge's girls take the spotlight this week, as both teams are ranked in Class D-1. The Knights are fifth in D-1 with a 16-1 record thus far. Cambridge is a short way down the list at number eight. The Trojans are 15-5 going into this weeks games.

The two teams play on Wednesday in Lexington in the D1-10 sub-districts. Elwood and Bertrand start the games off tonight.

Eustis-Farnam will play the winner of the game on Wednesday at 6 p.m., and Cambridge will follow against Arapahoe at 7:45 p.m. The finals will be on Thursday at 7 p.m.

Perkins County takes the second spot in the Class C-2 rankings. The Lady Plainsmen are 17-0 and will play the winner of the Southwest/North Platte St. Pats game on Wednesday at 6 p.m.

Southwest starts the Class C2-11 action tonight in Gothenburg against North Platte. Elm Creek and Sutherland play Wednesday after the Perkins County game at 8 p.m. The finals will be Thursday at 6 p.m.

Chase County and Southern Valley pair up in the C1-11 semifinals on Wednesday. Gothenburg and Broken Bow play tonight with the winner playing Hershey Wednesday at 6 p.m. The Longhorns and Eagles follow at 7:45 p.m., and the finals will be Thursday at 7:30.

Maywood, Wallace and Paxton take the floor on Wednesday night at Sutherland for the D2-11 subs. Arthur County and South Platte play the first round tonight and the winner will play Paxton tomorrow at 6:30 p.m. Maywood and Wallace hit the floor at 8 p.m., and the finals are Thursday at 7:30.

McCook's gym will be the site for the first round of the girls D1-11 games. Dundy County and Hitchcock County play tonight.

Wauneta-Palisade takes on the winner on Wednesday at 6 p.m. and Medicine Valley and Hayes Center play at 7:45. Thursday will be the final round beginning at 7:30 p.m.

This week is also the last Friday night of basketball action for many of the boys basketball teams as their sub-district games begin on Monday.

Wauneta-Palisade leads the area in the basketball rankings. The Bronco boys remain undefeated at 17-0 and are number one in Class D-1.

Hitchcock County is also ranked in D-1 at number 6. The Falcons are 15-3.

Perkins County takes the sixth spot in the C-2 rankings. The Plainsmen are 13-2.

Dundy County will be home again Friday hosting the Broncos. Hitchcock County will host Southern Valley and Hayes Center and North Platte St. Pats hit the floor as well.

Arapahoe will host Alma and Cambridge will be home with Bertrand. Medicine Valley travels over to Eustis-Farnam and Rawlins County hosts Colby.

The McCook High School boys and girls basketball teams will play at Grand Island Northwest Friday and Cozad Saturday.
