Travelers helped

Thursday, January 25, 2007

Dear McCook residents,

What a wonderful town you are. I was travelling through your city after the New Year and had car trouble. I was on my way from North Dakota to Amarillo, Texas.

I was traveling alone since my husband had already flown back earlier to Texas.

It was dark and cold out and I had just reached McCook, Nebraska.

My engine coolant light had just come on and I needed to pull over at the nearest convenient store which was Kabredlos, I believe. I did not want to ruin my engine and I had miles yet to drive.

Two gentlemen, named Marty Conroy and Sam Frandsen, who happened to be at the Kabredlos Convenient Store that evening helped me out.

Not only did they check my engine coolant, told me what to watch for, but they bought the coolant for me and would not let me pay them back. They said if I ever have car trouble just stop in McCook and ask for Sam and Marty.

That night two complete stangers helped a traveler out and I and my husband are both eternally grateful. God Bless America and God Bless the Midwest and all the small towns and cities along Highway 83!

Mary Freund-Braun,

Amarillo, Texas
