Recycling resolution

Tuesday, January 2, 2007

Dear Editor,

Happy New Year!

Here's a New Year's Resolution that is easy and satisfying to the soul:

Wash out and save:

1.Glass containers of all kinds
2.Plastic containers that have a No. 1 or a No. 2 in a little triangle at the bottom
3.Aluminum cans
4.Tin cans
5.And, of course, newspapers (don't wash).

Store them unsorted somewhere out of the way -- I use a big old-style washtub downstairs in the laundry room that has the four legs so you don't have to bend over when gathering it all up. I save the newspapers upstairs in a basket. If you have kids, get your kids to help you in this good daily project.

On the first weekday of the month, sort it all into plastic bags by type and take to the recycling center. Don't forget the newspapers.

The recycling center is located on the road that goes between Southwest Implement and Four Winds Animal Clinic. Go west on that road until you see the last fenced gate (just after the Transfer Station) and drive in up to the open doors, then it just takes a few minutes to toss the recyclables into their bins.

Drive away feeling that you did something good!

By the way, when I lived in Fort Wayne, Ind., recycling was mandatory.

Connie Harvey,

McCook
