Shoemaker calls Web survey false, misleading

Tuesday, October 31, 2006

Today, supporters of Frank Shoemaker, Candidate for the 44th District seat in the Nebraska Legislature, released a letter written to the publisher of the political website, necitizen.com. In the letter, the Shoemaker supporters describe a survey posted on the site as "false" and "misleading" and charged the site with attempting to "fool people in Legislative District 44."

Characterizing the survey as the "posting of lies," and "the sleaziest of all campaign tactics," the letter calls upon Smith to retract the information on the site and apologize to Shoemaker and the voters of the district.

The letter, sent to Steve Smith of Imperial via certified mail and email, was signed by Cambridge business owner Matt Faw, McCook business owners Matt Sehnert, Laura Ford, Todd Graves and Steve Leopold, and McCook Attorney Daylene Bennett.

Of the post, Shoemaker said, "The responses posted on the website did not come from me or anyone on my campaign. The information provided, from my telephone number and educational credentials down to the most minute policy statements is patently false and intended to deceive unsuspecting voters in Southwest Nebraska."

"The posting of deliberately false information of this nature is reckless and irresponsible and we know exactly where it is coming from. Steve Smith and Waterclaim  are my opponent's biggest supporters and this information would not have been posted without the blessings of Mark Christensen himself."
