Dog in the classroom

Tuesday, August 22, 2006

Dear Editor,

In the Aug. 16 edition of the Gazette, an article (indicated a) school policy aims for lifelong learning, health.

Another issue that should be addressed is the "dog allowed in the classroom." Hopefully that was a temporary agreement until the teacher could make other arrangements!

I do know that there are some students who have allergies to certain animals. With that being the case, are they screened before they're put into the classroom? Also, how often is the class possibly interrupted by have to take the dog out on potty breaks?

My point is, the school is not the place for pets, especially when McCook has a few places that will board your animal!

One more question, whoever gave permission for this to ever begin, the school board, the principal or the superintendent?

Regards,

Becky Lepper,

McCook

EDITOR'S NOTE -- Superintendent Don Marchant said the administration was aware that a teacher brought a small dog to the classroom, but it had not created problems. If it did, he said, the problem would be addressed.
