Letter to the Editor

Speak out now

Thursday, March 30, 2006

Dear Editor,

I cannot accept the excuses put forth by Mayor Berry on the reasoning behind rehiring Bingham. I thought everything was complete with the water treatment plant and the water issue had been taken care of, at least that is what Bingham said when he left.

He also said McCook was in good hands with LeAnn and Kyle in charge of the city, a statement I happen to be in agreement with. The city staff is more than competent to handle the budget. As far as the deep well project is concerned, I thought we were paying tens of thousands of dollars to engineers to oversee the project. If Bingham is the expert on this, why pay an engineering firm or firms?

On the issue of a lawsuit if they don't honor the contract with Bingham, there is a buyout clause that will eliminate the lawsuit.

What is guaranteed is there will be lawsuits if he is retained. With Bingham's style of management the lawsuits will continue to roll in.

I think the City Council underestimated the flack they would receive by secretly making a deal with Bingham. They probably figured a few people would express their displeasure and the controversy would go away. It's not going away. Mayor Berry said if they had to do it all over again they would have informed the public. So rescind the contract and allow the public a voice in the process.

I, for one, have not contacted any of my councilmen but after Mayor Berry's comments in the Gazette about his calls being about 50-50 it's time. Let's speak out now and let each council member know how we feel. Please show up at the April 3 meeting. You don't have to get up and speak, your presence will be enough.

Thank you,

Dave Winder

McCook
