Doris B. Awtry

Doris B. Awtry of McCook died Saturday (March 11, 2006) at Great Plains Regional Medical Center in North Platte. She was 81 years old.

She was born Oct. 10, 1924, at Curtis to Peter C. and Anna Elsie (Rossen) Nelsen. She grew up in Curtis and graduated from the University of Nebraska School of Agriculture High School in 1941.

She married Gerald W. Awtry Sept. 26, 1943 at Fort Wayne, Indiana. They moved from Curtis to McCook in 1947.

She was a member of Memorial United Methodist Church. Since 1983 she has sold Avon products.

She was preceded in death by her husband (Dec. 6, 1997), her parents; two brothers, Kenneth and LeRoy and a sister, Margaret.

Survivors include: a daughter, Sandy and husband, Dick Foran of North Platte; and two sons, Dennis and wife, Donna Awtry of North Platte and Wayne Awtry and friend, Elaine Wells of McCook; a brother, Marion and wife, Wanda Nelsen of McCook; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

In Lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to American Heart Association and the American Cancer Society.

Memorial services will be Thursday at 10 a.m. at Carpenter Breland Chapel in McCook with the Rev. Dr. Jeff Thurman officiating. Inurnment will be at the Fort McPherson National Cemetery in Maxwell at 2 p.m.
