Bison girls, boys salvage 7th at Colby

COLBY -- McCook's basketball teams took seventh in the Annual Paul Wintz Orange and Black basketball Classic Saturday.

The Bison girls celebrated a 69-44 victory over Scott City and tied a school record to boot.

Beloit won the championship after defeating Wichita South in the girls division.

Jillian Bryant scored 27 points and tied the Bison girls school record for most points in a game.

"The girls played very well today, we shot the ball as well as we have all season and we put together four good quarters of basketball," said Bison girls coach Barry Schaeffer.

Along with Bryant's 27 points, Allison Smith took top scoring honors as well with 24 points. Smith scored 50 points in the three tournament game.

Kayla Wilson totaled 8 points and Taryn Placzek had 4. Smith also led in rebounds with 8 and Wilson had 7.

Bryant had 4 assists and Amy Beckenhauer had 3 steals.

Robinson led the Scott City girls with 14 points. Scheuerman had 12 points and Bollinger had 8.

The Bison boys snuck past Colby's Eagles 66-64.

Both teams were back and forth the entire game before McCook outscored Colby in the fourth.

Scott City's boys took the first place spot after downing Olatha North.

Joel Arterburn contributed 18 points to the Bison win. Cory Gaston posted 16 points.

Brandon Crick had 13 points and Garett Rippen had 12. Rippen also claimed leading rebounder with 6 and Gaston had 4. Purvis led in assists with 8.

Trevor Siebert led Colby with 18 points. Trey Barnett and Nick Howard scored 14 points each.

Ethan Stover had 10 points and RJ Ledenburger had 8.
