Pleasant visit

Thursday, December 22, 2005

Dear Editor,

My wife Carol and I recently were in McCook on a combination of business and pleasure. We were greatly impressed with the overall friendliness of this community. All the merchants seemed genuinely glad to have our business; most cheerfully made small talk while we browsed.

The number and quality of shops was a pleasant surprise, as was the diversity of products and services offered.

We were treated with outstanding courtesy everywhere we went. Every meal we had while in town was quite tasty, and obviously prepared with care -- and even affection.

Visiting McCook brought back fond memories of the way virtually all towns and cities used to be, with old-fashioned Midwest values and traditions obvious everywhere -- yet modern enough to allow us all the comforts of "big city living" at the same time.

It was especially heartening to see such warmth and kindness so evident during the holiday season, although I suspect it's a year-round tradition in your town.

In short, we found McCook to be one of the most pleasant towns we've ever encountered in our travels. It's a true gem of a place, and we genuinely look forward to returning. We were almost reluctant to leave.

Residents here can take great pride in their town and all it has to offer. Thanks to all who made our stay memorable.

Best wishes,

Mike and Carol Ostrowski

Chicago
