Southwest Nebraska well represented at state championships

Wednesday, November 16, 2005

When you look at population percentages, the success of Southwest Nebraska football teams in 2005 becomes even more impressive.

Consider this. With just over 30,000 in population, Southwest Nebraska's eight counties accounts for only 2 percent of the state's population. Yet, with McCook, Chase County of Imperial and Cambridge headed to state championship games, this area accounts for 25 percent of the 12 teams competing for Nebraska titles.

Making it even more special, the three area teams have achieved success with quality programs built on tradition, hard work, solid coaching and community support. When Cambridge, Chase County and McCook take the field for the title games Friday and Saturday, they will have more than their towns behind them. They will have an entire area of proud supporters.
