Bison volleyball squad spikes Cozad, Cambridge

McCook evens

record at 7-7

COZAD -- The McCook High School volleyball team swept Cozad and Cambridge Tuesday night at the Cozad Triangular and evened its record at 7-7.

The Bison defeated Cozad 25-12, 25-17 and Cambridge 25-15, 25-12. Cambridge defeated Cozad 25-22, 25-10.

McCook volleyball coach Krystal Weber said this is the first time during her tenure that a McCook volleyball team has swept a triangular.

"We played extremely well and eliminated errors," said Weber, whose team defeated Cambridge in three sets earlier in the season. "We kind of got the job done."

In the Cozad match, Jennifer Chmiel led the Bison with 4 ace serves. Lindsay Hazlitt, Erica Clapp and Allison Smith each had one.

Smith pounded out 14 kills. McNutt and Chmiel each had 3. Clapp had 22 set assists.

Smith had 1.5 blocks, Lindsey McNutt 1 and Allyx Shields 0.5. Chmiel had 5 digs, Alyssa Cook 4 and Hazlitt 23.

In the Cambridge match, Corinne Burger had 3 ace serves, Chmiel 3 and Hazlitt 1. Hazlitt had 7 kills, Shields 6 and Chmiel 6. Clapp had 21 set assists. Hazlitt and Shields each had 1.5 blocks.

Chmiel had 6 digs, Hazlitt 4, Shields 4 and McNutt 4.

Against McCook, Cambridge was paced in kills by Shelby Schultz with 3, Kymbre Lytle 2, Christin Bruckman 1, Traci Keyser 1 and Bailey Soucie 1.

Bruckman had 3 digs, Schultz2, Lytle 2, Alysia Mowry 2, Keyser 1 and Soucie 1. Soucie had 7 set assists and Mowry 1.

Soucie had 3 service aces and 4 points. Bruckman, Lytle and Mowry each had 2 points and Schultz 1.

Keyser served 16 points and 3 aces in the win against Cozad. Mowry served 11 points with 2 aces.

Bruckman had 5 kills, Schultz 3 and Lytle 3. Schultz had 7 digs, Bruckman 6, Lytle 5, Mowry 4 and Soucie 4. Schultz and Keyser each had 2 ace blocks.

McCook will participate in the Gering/Scottsbluff Invite Friday and Saturday. Cambridge plays at North Platte-St. Pat's Friday.

Oberlin wins tourney

OBERLIN -- Oberlin defeated against St. Francis, Cheylin and Wray Tuesday in the Decatur Community volleyball tournament.

Kaitlyn Stapp led the Red Devils in setting against St. Francis and Wray.

Stapp also led in passing. Lydia Karnopp, Emmie Pauls and Heather Williams led in hitting.

HASTINGS -- Southern Valley's volleyball team came up short in the St. Cecilia Tourney in Hastings Tuesday.

"We came out strong against an undefeated team," said Eagles Coach Suzanne Stanton. Alyssa Steele tallied the points for the Eagles. Teammate Ashley Strickland led in attacks, while Jenae Perkins led in blocks.

Wallace tops field

WALLACE -- Wallace's girls volleyball team took the win in their own triangular against Maywood and Brady on Tuesday.

Maywood defeated Brady to take the second placing. Wallace's coach Kory Rohde said her girls "played a good solid game."

Wallace is now 9-2.

Ashton Harris and Ashley Whitson shared scoring duties. Jessica Smith and Whitson both led in setting.

Katie Friesen, Anne Hubbard and Harris led Wallace in spiking. Harris also led in blocking with Whitney Hochstetler.

Perkins County played a close game with Ogallala's Indians, but came up short.

Brittany Hajek, Carlie Sis and Abby McCloskey led the Plainsmen in assists, blocks and kills.

WAUNETA -- Wauneta-Palisade won four of their five matches in their own triangular Tuesday.

The Broncos lost their fifth game to North Platte St. Pats.

"The girls played very well. I think our coverage and blocking is really starting to pickup," said Broncos Coach RanDee Littrel.

Wauneta-Palisade's C team and junior varsity also saw some action.

The C team won in two sets against Leyton. The JV team also played Leyton, but fell short in two close scoring sets.

Stephanie Padilla, Myrah Brown, Kiane Alberts and Betsy Anderjaska led the Broncos in scoring, assists, kills, digs and aces.

Alex Hamilton tallied the points, while Sheela Runer led in kills, digs, aces and blocks for the C team.

Bryn Vapenik led the JV in points and Jessica Maddux and Blair Dixon led in digs, blocks and kills.

MEDICINE VALLEY -- Medicine Valley hosted North Platte St. Pats and Arapahoe Tuesday, with NPSP winning two matches.

Medicine Valley won over Arapahoe for second.

Page Bek and Olivia Klein scored the points for the Raiders. Bek scored 10 points in the St. Pats game and Klein scored 11 against Arapahoe. Whitney Schroeder had 27 assists, while Jessica Jorgensen had six kills.

Teammate Lacy Bryant had four kills.
