Bison JV team wins OT thriller at North Platte

NORTH PLATTE -- Austin Gesselman blocked an extra point kick to preserve a 20-19 overtime victory for the McCook Bison junior varsity football team over the North Platte JV Monday at North Platte.

The score was tied 13-13 going into overtime.

McCook scored first on a 10-yard pass from Justin Spector to Josh Mullen. David Cappel kicked the extra point for a 20-13 McCook lead.

North Platte scored on third down. McCook coach Chad Lyons said the Bison sent four players to block the kick and Gesselman got through.

McCook scored the game's first TD in the first quarter on a 2-yard run by Spector. The PAT kick failed.

The TD was set up by Daniel Schaffert's return of a fumble.

North Platte went on a 75-yard scoring drive and returned an interception for a TD to take a 13-7 halftime lead.

With 1:30 left in the game, Gesselman scored from 1-yard out and Cappel tied the score with the PAT kick.

North Platte got the ball with 1:13 left, but could not advance and the game went into overtime.

McCook improved to 4-0.

The Bison will host Hastings at 6 p.m. next Monday.
