McCook Bison girls golf team captures nine-hole tourney at home
Hager, Nelson finish 1st, 2nd;
MHS hosts GNAC Friday
The McCook High School girls golf team warmed up for its league meet by winning a nine-hole "triangular" Monday afternoon at Heritage Hills.
The Bison won the team title with a 211 score, led by sophomore Justine Hager and senior Lesley Nelson, who finished first and second with 44 and 48.
The Bison edged out Lexington (212) by one stroke for the title.
Holdrege placed third with a 271, followed by the Lexington Reserves 276.
McCook's Colby Eisenhart fired a 57, followed by Minda Haas with a 62.
Lexington's varsity was paced by Amanda Hansen and Kapra Smith with 53s, Kelsey Ondrak 55, Robyn Scheckler 57 and Brenna Smith 64.
Holdrege was led by Jessica Ellis with a 63, followed by Meghan Orcutt 67, Andrea Silver 70 and Kindra Wilbur 71.
A fourth team competed in the meet.
The Lexington Reserves were led by Kayla Salem's 55. Carrie Dennis shot 71, Iyanni Bennett 72, Sarah Saberger 78 and Leah Rinke 78.
The Bison girls golf team, coached by Randy Ryser, will host the Greater Nebraska Athletic Conference meet at 9:30 a.m. Friday.
McCook will also host the Class B-4 district meet Oct. 3. Other teams assigned to the district are Alliance, Cozad, Gering, Mitchell-Morrill, Ogallala, Scottsbluff and Sidney.
The Class B state golf tournament is slated for Oct. 10-11 at Lincoln.
