Futile engagement

Thursday, June 16, 2005

Dear Editor,

It's obvious that exchanging jabs will change nobody's mind so it is futile to engage.

I think we all will agree that the U.S. was attacked on September 11 by terrorists. They don't like us. If the U.S. military doesn't pursue the attackers, they would most likely attack again. If we pursue the attackers it requires "invading" somebody and terrorists know no borders. They seem to be welcome in many places.

The U.S. didn't necessarily attack Afghanistan or Iraq ... we attacked a certain faction of people taking refuge in those countries. Some say Iraq was better off with Saddam in control than with the U.S. being present. Saddam did get 100 percent of the votes last time he ran ... didn't he? Guess that proves he is a great guy.

As I hear it most terrorists in Iraq now are from Iran and Syria. Borders mean nothing.

In August 1988 Saddam's army bombed Kurds in northern Iraq with sarin gas, killing an estimated 100,000 people. How can anyone say he didn't have WMDs? Underground labs have been found and why would they be underground if they weren't trying to hide something?

It's a shame the two U.S. political parties go to such lengths to degrade one another and obstruct the party now in office instead of working together for the betterment and safety of our country.
