Steve Nicholson resigned his duties as head boys basketball coach at McCook High School effective immediately.

MHS athletic director Rick Haney made the announcement Tuesday morning.

Nicholson resigned because of personal reasons, said Haney.

Nicholson was head coach for the 2004-05 season, and the Bison boys posted a 7-18 record.

The season ended with a 55-51 loss to Lexington in the first round of the Nebraska Class B-4 district tournament Feb. 26 at Grand Island.

In 2003-04, Nicholson was the co-coach and the team posted a 15-12 record.

"He served in several different capacities (at McCook High School)," Haney said.

"We appreciated his time and effort and commitment. He really likes basketball."

The search for a new coach began effectively Tuesday, Haney added.

Nicholson will continue as an assistant football coach with the McCook Junior High School eighth graders.
