Chase County

The McCook High School sophomore boys basketball team handed Chase County-Imperial a 66-55 loss Monday night at the MHS gym.

"We got off to a good start in the first quarter and then had a big third quarter," said McCook coach Matt Wiemers. "The team did a god job of finding open spots against their zone. We didn't play well on defense, as we gave up way too many points and fouls."

The Bison shot 54 percent from the field and 57 percent from the free throw line.

"It was another great team effort and the guys did a good job of playing unselfish basketball," Wiemers said. "John had a huge game, as he recorded our team's first double-double (points-rebounds).

"When we score offensively as a team, John and Brock are big keys to our success. John plays solid defense and does a great job of rebounding. The team played well and continue to show positive signs of improvement."

McCook evened its record at 2-2. The Bison host North Platte next Monday.

In the Sinte Gleska game, B.J. Luke led the NCTA varsity with 29 points and McClain had 22. Haiar pulled down 13 rebounds.

"An inability to stop the long pass and to hit the lay-ins made a considerable difference in the game," said NCTA coach Del Van Der Werff.

Six players scored in double figures in the Ogala game, led by Luke with 26 points. Matt Klima added 16, Zak Herrington 15, Ryan Sedlacek 13 and McClain 10.
