MCC women drop Doane JV

The McCook Community College women's basketball team defeated the Doane College junior varsity 70-61 Tuesday night at True Hall Gymnasium.

Susan Pachek led the Indians with 15 points and added 4 rebounds. Taryn Guerrero had 13 points and 14 rebounds.

Jordann Hoyt had 11 points and 4 rebounds. Shawna Quevedo added 10 points.

"We played great team ball last night," said MCC women's basketball coach Michelle Orton. "My starters had a great start for us, but got into foul trouble early.

"That is when our bench stepped up and really helped our team fight for a win. I was very pleased with how the team came together and fought hard to stay in the game and pull off a win."

The Indians improved to 2-3 and will host the Holiday Inn Express Classic Friday and Saturday.

On Friday, the North Platte women play the Nebraska All-Stars at 2 p.m. and MCC plays Midland Lutheran JV at 6 p.m.

Saturday, North Platte plays Midland Lutheran at 10 a.m. and MCC plays the All-Stars at 2 p.m.

MCC men even at 3-3

The McCook Community College men's basketball team evened its record at 3-3 with a pair of wins last weekend at the MCC Merchants Classic at True Hall Gym,

The Indians defeated the Doane JV 91-60 Friday.

Brandon Butler and Dundy County alum Ben Shaw led MCC with 17 points each. Andre Goldberg and Josh Oliver each scored 11 points.

In the other game Friday, North Platte CC defeated Friends University JV from Wichita, Kan., 86-66.

On Saturday, the MCC men's squad defeated the Friends JV 86-65. Butler scored 22 points. Goldberg and Peere Shackleford each scored 15.

In Saturday's other game, North Platte CC defeated Doane JV 95-63.

The Indians will also compete in the MCC Holiday Inn Express Classic this Friday and Saturday.

On Friday, Otero Junior College plays the Region IX All-Stars at 4 p.m. and MCC plays the Nebraska All-Stars at 8 p.m.

On Saturday, Otero plays the Nebraska All-Stars at noon and MCC plays the Region IX All-Stars at 4 p.m.
