Dundy County volleyball team still rolling

Tigers 2-0 at Cheylin

BIRD CITY -- The Dundy County volleyball won two matches at Cheylin Tuesday and improved to 13-5.

Dundy County defeated Cheylin 25-14, 25-11 and Hitchcock County 25-16, 25-22. Hitchcock County defeated Cheylin 25-23, 25-16.

Aubrey Kehlbeck and Jessica Marshall led Cheylin in serving with four each against Dundy County. Kaedra Dixson had four kills for the Cougars.

"Dundy County has a decent volleyball program and they should be proud of their success. Nevertheless, we have played them twice this year and this is the worst we have played against them," said Cheylin coach Amy Hendricks.

Kate Voss had five kills for the Hitchcock County Falcons against Cheylin, and Trisha McDonald added two. Laken Cook had seven assists for Hitchcock County. Afton Krien had four kills in the loss for Cheylin.

"I was proud of how the girls came out and played the first game against Hitchcock County. Unfortunately, we didn't come out strong in the second game and suffered a disappointing loss," said Hendricks.

Kate Voss had 10 kills to lead Hitchcock County against Dundy County. Laken Cook had 13 assists.

"The girls came out flat and couldn't get their feet under them. Lisa Faimon and Amanda Anderson did a nice job filling in for the injured Laci Brennan," said Hitchcock County coach Jon Graff.

Dundy County will host Southern Valley in the RVL tournament on Monday.

Hitchcock County will be at Wauneta-Palisade on Oct. 15.

Cheylin will be at Idalia on Oct. 12.

Oberlin 3-0 at home

OBERLIN -- The Oberlin volleyball team won three matches at its home triangular on Tuesday.

Oberlin started the day with a 25-22, 25-21 win over Goodland.

Lauren Fortin and Christa Hardy were each five of five serving.

Kaitlyn Stapp was 11 for 11 setting with six assists. Lydia Karnopp led the team with four kills.

Oberlin then defeated Brewster 25-23, 25-22.

Heather Williams led the Red Devils in serving, going 11 for 11.

She also led the team in setting, going for 49 of 49 with 12 assists.

Williams also led Oberlin in hitting. She was five of five with three kills.

Finally, Oberlin defeated Rawlins County 25-22, 22-25, 25-21.

Williams was eight of eight serving for Oberlin.

Kaitlyn Stapp was 25 of 25 setting with 10 assists.

Tricia Dorshorst had four kills for the Red Devils.

"There were four solid ball teams that met up on the DCHS court. Brewster came in with a 23-2 record and left with a 24-4 record. Rawlins County had been ranked in 2A," said Oberlin coach Pat Dorshorst.

"The Oberlin squad is starting to realize their potential, I hope they continue to build throughout the remainder of the season," said Dorshorst.

"It is fantastic how these firls work together and support one another whether they are on the court or waiting for their turn to go in. I hope that they can continue with this outstanding team effort."

The Oberlin JV team also went 3-0.

Oberlin defeated Goodland 25-17, 25-19.

Oberlin won over Brewster 23-25, 25-16, 15-12 and Rawlins County 13-25, 25-23, 15-10.

The Oberlin ninth grade team defeated Goodland 27-25, 25-21 and fell to Rawlins County 24-26, 25-14, 10-15.

Oberlin will play Colby and Quinter at Colby on Oct. 12.

Cambridge beats

Southern Valley

in straight sets

OXFORD -- The Southern Valley volleyball squad lost to Cambridge on Tuesday.

The Trojans won the match 25-10, 25-19, 25-16.

Southern Valley remains winless on the season.

Megan Becker led the Eagles with six kills. Janae Perkins and Trisha Siebels each added three kills.

Alyssa Steele had seven assists in the loss to the Trojans.

Both teams will compete Monday at the Republican Valley League tournament.

Cambridge will be the fourth seed at the tournament. Southern Valley will be the seventh seed.

Southwest received the top seed and will have a bye. They will play the winner of Bertrand (5) and Cambridge (4).

The other half of the bracket will have Arapahoe (6) vs. Alma (3), with the winner to face the winner of the Southern Valley (7)/Dundy County (2) match.
