DENVER, Colo. -- Grace Shane, 102, of Denver, Colo., died Wednesday (July 14, 2004) at Centura Senior Life Center Nursing Home in Denver, Colo.

She was born Dec. 7, 1901, to Edgar and Nellie (Upson) Goudie. She grew up in Stamford. She graduated from Stamford High School in 1920.

On Aug. 16, 1922, she married Frank Smith. They worked on various farm jobs in Kansas and later separated. She moved to Colorado in the mid-forties.

On March 6, 1946, she married Donald D. Shane in Denver. In 1950, they moved to a farm 11 miles north of Arapahoe. They retired and moved into Arapahoe in 1968. He died Dec. 27, 1972. She returned to Denver in 1996 to be near her daughter. She entered nursing homes in the Denver area in 1997.

She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Arapahoe and the Quilting Club.

She was preceded in death by her parents; one brother; five sisters; and her husband.

Survivors include her daughter, Betty and husband, Roy Bigalow of Englewood, Colo.; four grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and 23 great-great-grandchildren.

Graveside services are Saturday, 10 a.m., at Arapahoe Cemetery in Arapahoe with the Rev. Dr. Hyeongdong Baek officiating.

Wenburg Funeral Home of Arapahoe is in charge of the arrangements.
