Letter to the Editor

Support marriage

Thursday, July 8, 2004

Dear Editor,

Do you believe the definition of marriage in the United States should remain a union of "one man and one woman"?

Do you agree that the ideal for children is having a loving mother AND a loving father, even if the ideal is not always attained?

Do you believe "love" alone is not a sufficient criterion for marriage? For example, may two brothers who love each other marry? Two sisters? A brother and a sister? Three women? Four men? A man and his pet?...

Do you agree that this issue should not be left up to the unelected judiciary or to the chaos of 50 individual sets of state laws?

If so, please join us in (politely) contacting our federal legislators to urge them to support the Federal Marriage Amendment now being debated in Congress.

This amendment will be very difficult to pass and needs the support of every American who believes in traditional marriage. Time is short. The amendment is scheduled to be voted on July 15, and our two senators are currently opposed. Remember that a vote against this amendment is a vote for "same-sex marriage" and future variations, no matter what else they may tell you.

The last time the Constitution was amended, in 1992, the issue was congressional pay raises. Remind our senators of that fact if their assistants tell you they don't like "tampering with the Constitution. Here is the contact information:

Representative Tom Osborne, phone: (202) 225-6435 or through his Web site: http://www.house.gov/osborne

Sen. Ben Nelson, phone: (202) 224-6551 or email: senator@bennelson.senate.gov.

Sen. Chuck Hagel, phone: (202) 224-4224 or through his Web site:

http://hagel.senate.gov

Thank you.

Very sincerely,

Elmer and Tally Case

Max
