Gwen L. Johnson

LINCOLN -- Gwen Lynne Johnson, 49, died Thursday (June 24, 2004) at Bryan LGH East Medical Center in Lincoln.

She was born May 15, 1955, to Stanley and Jeanette (Heitz) Schmutzok in Cleveland, Ohio. She grew up in Parma, Ohio, where she graduated from Parma High School. She attended college at Cleveland City College in Cleveland, Ohio.

She moved to McCook in 1977, where she worked for Southwest Area Training Services. She worked there for 27 years until the time of her death.

On March 29, 1991, she married Robin Johnson at the First Congregational Church in McCook.

She was preceded in death by two former husbands; and her father, Stanley Schmutzok.

Survivors include her husband, Robin; her mother, Jeanette Schmutzok of Cleveland, Ohio; her father- and mother-in-law, Robert and Helen Johnson of McDonald; five step-children, Jada Carpenter and husband, Rod of Indianola, Julie Burns and husband, Dan of McCook, Si Shepherd and wife, Staci of Holdrege, Hilary Van Patten and husband, Matthew of Almena, Kan., and Robin Jr. of St. Louis Park, Minn.; two brothers-in-law, Ron Johnson and wife, Brenda and Rod Johnson and wife, Lisa, all of McDonald; and seven step-grandchildren.

Services are Tuesday, 10:30 a.m., at Herrmann Memorial Chapel in McCook with Terry McCorkel officiating. Inurnment will be at a later date.

Memorials may be given in her name and left at the funeral home.
