Letter to the Editor

Vicious letter

Friday, May 28, 2004

Dear Editor,

I am writing in response to the shameful, vicious letter in Open Forum by Bob Thayer on Wednesday attacking our president.

I was always taught that we should address our leaders with respect. In this case instead of Bush, it should be President Bush. In a democracy, if we don't like someone, we can always vote them out of office and it is our privilege to respectfully disagree with them.

Please look at what the Bible tells us we are to do for our leaders. I Timothy 2:1-2 says, "I exhort therefore, that, first of all, supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks be made for all men; For kings, and for all that are in authority; that we may lead a peaceful life in all godliness and honesty."

God is very active in the affairs of men. Romans 13:1 says, "Let every soul be subject unto the higher powers. For there is no power but of God: the powers that be are ordained of God." This tells us that when you oppose the leader, you are opposing God. Do you think you can win that battle?

If you read the Old Testament you will read that God sets up nations (even the basest of nations) and He tears down nations to accomplish His purposes. He is Lord (sovereign) over all.

Cordially,

Paul Schneider

McCook
