Pauline 'Ruby' Floyd

CURTIS -- Pauline "Ruby" Floyd, 85, died Friday (Jan. 30, 2004) at Sunset Haven Nursing Home in Curtis.

She was born Nov. 4, 1918, to Justin E. and Nora Belle (Hibbs) Floyd near Smithfield. She attended the Nebraska School of Agriculture in Curtis and graduated in 1937. In 1941, she graduated from Kearney Normal School with a bachelor of arts degree in education. She taught high school home economics, English and business in Campbell, Bushnell and Craig, Colo., for 16 years. She received her masters degree in business administration from the University of Denver of 1959. She taught at Denver Adventist High School from 1955-1960. She retired from teaching in 1960 and moved to Curtis to live with her mother, Nora. She moved to the Sunset Haven Nursing Home on Feb. 7, 1997.

She was a member of poet's societies, volunteer activities and the Seventh Day Adventist Church.

She was preceded in death by her parents and great nephew, Thomas Floyd.

Survivors include one brother, Justin and wife, Sally Floyd of Hayes Center; three nephews; seven great nieces and nephews and seven great-great nieces and nephews.

Services are Thursday, 1 p.m., at the United Methodist Church in Curtis with the Rev. Jim Martin officiating. Interment will be at the Elwood Cemetery in Elwood.

Visitation is Tuesday and Wednesday, 9 a.m.-5 p.m., at Blase-Wetzel Funeral Home.

Memorials may be given in her name to the United Methodist Church in Curtis.
