Indians to play next round at Johnson-Stanton County

ST. FRANCIS -- St. Francis blew out Plainville 46-8 in a Kansas Class 2-1A state football playoff game Tuesday night at St. Francis.

The Indians improved to 8-2, and will play a quarterfinal game at 2 p.m. Saturday at Johnson, Kan., against Stanton County.

Stanton County defeated Ness City 58-6.

The Indians led 18-0 after one quarter and 26-0 at halftime.

Kyle Buffington opened the Indian onslaught with a 3-yard touchdown run in the first quarter. Derek Ross ran in the two-point conversion.

Ross then scored on a 5-yard run. Quarterback Tyler Voorhies tossed a pass to Michael Raile for the 2-pointer.

The Indians added a team safety.

In the second quarter, Voorhie broke loose for a 60-yard TD run. John Roelfs ran in the PAT.

In the third quarter, Ross sprinted 64 yards for a TD, and Voorhies hooked up with Raile again for the 2-pointer to give the Indians a 34-0 lead.

Plainville prevented the shutout with an 18-yard TD pass and a 2-pointer.

St. Francis' Joel McAtee tacked on a 4-yard TD run. The Indians missed on the PAT.

The Indians rushed for more than 300 yards. Ross gained 100 yards, Buffington 74, Roelfs 67 and Voorhies 64.

Nick Keller led the Indians' defense with 10 tackles, followed by Ross 8 and Buffington 6.
