Hold journalists accountable

Dear Editor,

This letter is in response to Gloria's recent article titled "Holding Leaders Accountable." I don't believe you will find much of an argument with the statement "Holding leader accountable."

Yes, our leaders do need to be held accountable, but what Gloria seems to forget is that the recall process is just one of two processes in which the normal citizen can hold them accountable. The other being the regular-term elections.

I also believe in the statement "Holding Journalist Accountable." When such statements are made like "California has elected a governor who reportedly once said he admired Adolph Hitler" would lead the reader to believe that governor-elect Schwarzenegger admired Adolph Hitler, perhaps the most hated man in the 20th century.

By doing a little fact checking, Gloria should have printed, "California governor elect once said "I admire Hitler for being such a good public speaker and for what he did with it … like Kennedy had, you know, to speak to maybe 50,000 people at one time and having them cheer." Taken into context the statement about Hitler simply reflects a young man's fascination with power. And at the end of the original article Mr. Schwarzenegger goes on to say, "He did not admire what (Hitler) did with it."

She also could have also printed the fact that, "Mr. Schwarzenegger supports the Simon Wiesenthal Center, which is an international Jewish human rights group dedicated to preserving the memory of the Holocaust."

Mr. Schwarzenegger has donated tens of thousands of dollars to the organization. Instead she prints "never mind that he did it while bathing in the blood of millions of innocents."

As far as her "less serious charges of sexual misconduct" statement, here she should have followed up with the fact that "in no case did an eyewitness substantiate any of the these incidences despite the fact that the alleged incidences took place while hundreds of crew members were present.

Gloria, these are the facts and by all means check them.
