H. E. 'Gene' Rosenfelt

KEARNEY -- H. E. "Gene" Rosenfelt, 69, of Benkelman, died Friday (Sept. 21, 2001) at the Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney.

He was born Jan. 29, 1932, at Benkelman to Floyd and Lela (Clark) Rosenfelt. From an early age, he was raised by his aunt, Fay Rosenfelt Mowery. He attended school in Benkelman, graduating from high school in 1950.

In December 1951 he enlisted with the U.S. Air Force and served until his retirement in January 1972.

On Feb. 22, 1957, he married Carolyn Cogdill at Colorado Springs, Colo. In 1974 they moved to Benkelman with their family. He was employed as a bus driver for Dundy County High School for 17 years.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and his aunt Fay.

Survivors include his wife, Carolyn Rosenfelt of Benkelman; four daughters, Melinda and husband, Larry Einspahr of Benkelman, Jennifer Rosenfelt of Arden, N.C., Jannelle and husband, Dan Bowers of Bird City, Kan., and Melissa Rosenfelt of Benkelman; two sons, Mark Rosenfelt and wife, Diane of Benkelman, and Mike Rosenfelt and wife, Esperanza of TelAviv, Israel; one sister, Margaret and husband, Artie Guidice; his mother-in-law, Esther Cogdill of Benkelman; two brothers-in-law, Ron Cogdill and wife, Sandy of Canon City, Colo., and Roger Cogdill of Yuma, Ariz.; 10 grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; and five nieces and nephews.

Services will be Wednesday, 10:30 a.m. MDT, at the Zion Lutheran Church in Benkelman with the Rev. George Matthews officiating. There will be a private inurnment service for the family at a later date.

Memorials may be given in his name.
