Marvel Emma (Snook) Voels

STRATTON -- Marvel Emma (Snook) Voels, 91, of Stratton, formerly of Sioux Falls, S.D., died Saturday (Oct. 27, 2001) at her home in Stratton.

She was born Jan. 3, 1910, at Luverne, Minn., to Wesley and Sylvia (Pokett) Snook. The family moved to Sioux Falls when she was a young girl.

On June 19, 1928, she married George H.H. Voels. She was employed by John Morrell & Company, and retired in 1975 after more than 38 years of service. In 1998, she moved to Stratton to live with her daughter.

She was confirmed on June 11, 1972, into the Lutheran faith at Faith Lutheran Church in Sioux Falls, and attended the United Methodist Church at Stratton. She was a member of the United Methodist Women and the American Legion Auxiliary. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, George; one son, Marvin; six sisters; and three brothers.

Survivors include her children, Don Voels and wife, Pat of Neponset, Ill., and Joyce Johnson and husband, Charles of Stratton; one brother, Milton Snook and wife, Esther of Sioux Falls; one sister, Norma Mortenson of Clinton, Iowa; nine grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.

Services will be Wednesday, 10:30 a.m., at the Miller Funeral Home in Sioux Falls with the Rev. Scott Sayler officiating. Interment will follow at the Woodlawn Cemetery. Visitation will be Tuesday, 7 to 9 p.m., at Miller Funeral Home in Sioux Falls.
