LaVonne Gail 'Vonnie' Sappenfield

SAN ANTONIO, Texas -- LaVonne Gail "Vonnie" Sappenfield, 58, formerly of Atwood, died Wednesday (Feb. 5, 2003) in San Antonio, Texas.

She was born July 26, 1944, at Kansas City, Kan., to Delbert Fay "D.F." and LaVergne (King) McClelland. She graduated from Atwood Community High School in 1961. From Atwood, she moved to North Platte, and in 1969, to Hutchinson, Kan. She returned to Atwood in December of 1993, and then moved to Texas in December of 2001, to be near her son. She worked as a bookkeeper while living in Hutchinson.

She was preceded in death by her father, D. Fay McClelland; and a brother, Larry W. "Mac" McClelland.

Survivors include her mother, LaVergne McClelland of Atwood; sons, Michael Sappenfield and wife, Hilda of San Antonio, and Jarett Sappenfield of Hutchinson, Kan.; brother, Lowell McClelland and wife, Paula of Conway, Ark.; sisters, Meredith and husband, Gene Hrnchir of Atwood, Cheryl Faye and husband, Stan Smith of Placerville, Calif., and Penny Jo and husband, David Bodenhamer of Carmel, Ind.; and three step-grandsons.

A memorial service will be held at a later date and the inurnment will be in the Norton Cemetery at Norton, Kan.

Memorials may be given in her name and left in care of the funeral home, 215 South Fourth, Atwood, KS 67730.
