Dernovich

Don Dernovich, art instructor at McCook College, will have a showing of recent works executed in oil and watercolor. The exhibit will be on view from Nov. 3- 22 at the Wrightstone Fine Arts Gallery with a reception planned on Sunday, Nov. 10, 2- 5 p.m.

Dernovich has been affiliated with MCC for more than 31 years. He became the only full-time instructor 28 years ago. He also has been a practicing professional artist for the past 25 years and has exhibited his work in regional, national, and international competitive exhibitions.

His works have been shown, and he continues to be displayed, in such prestigious venues as the C.M. Russell Auction of Original Art in Montana, the Annual Arts for the Parks National Show in Wyoming, National Oil Painters of America in Illinois, National Academy of Design and the American Watercolor Society International in New York, the National Watercolor Society in California, the Rocky Mountain National in Colorado, Watercolor USA in Missouri, the Phippen Museum Western Art Show in Arizona, and the Spirit of the Great Plains Invitational in Nebraska, to name a few.

His most recent award was a first place in "Oil" from this year's Phippen Museum Western Art Show in Prescott, Ariz.

He also had a watercolor accepted into the 135th American Watercolor Society International show in New York City this spring which qualifies him as a candidate for signature membership in the organization.

Dernovich's work has been widely publicized in books and periodicals such as the American Artists magazine, Northlight Books: Splash 4 and Splash 5, and Rockport Publishing "Best of Watercolor" books. His work has also appeared on many corporate calendars and national monographs.

His biography can be found in Who's Who In American Art, Who's Who In America, American Artists of Renown, and has been featured three times in Who's Who Among American Teachers. Dernovich is a signature member of the National Watercolor Society and Kansas Watercolor Society, and is a candidate for active membership in the American Watercolor Society.

Don's work reflects his love of nature. His paintings in watercolor and oil reflect a close look at a big world. "In depicting the landscape, the wildlife or the people, whatever the source of inspiration might be, it is done with empathy," he said. "If my work says something about the beauty we have on this earth or the people who inhabit it, then I feel it is successful."

The viewing public is invited to visit the show during regular college hours, as well as from 7-9 p.m. on Monday and Thursday evenings or by appointment.

The public is also invited to a reception on Sunday, Nov. 10 from 2 to 5 p.m. at the Wrightstone Fine Arts Gallery.
