Students win state Class B sweepstakes

LINCOLN -- McCook Senior High's journalism staff won the Class B sweepstakes award and its teacher-sponsor was named "Championship Advisor" in the 2003 Nebraska High School State Journalism Competition.

MHS journalists won 15 awards. Teacher Linda Crandall-Jones earned one of five "Outstanding Advisor" awards presented in Class A1, A2, B, C and D.

Winning individual honors were these McCook students: Andrew Howell, second place, and Sara Cappel, third place, in advertising.

Christin Meissner, second place, in color photography.

Tanner Lytle, first place, editorial cartooning.

Jordan Bass, first place, editorial writing.

Rick Eilenberger and Randy Rogers, first place, info graphics.

Tyler Bieck, second place; Maggie Jones and Jordan Bass, tied for third place, in newspaper feature writing.

Jay Austin Jr., first place, and Brad Haas, third place, in news writing.

Randy Rogers, first place, in photo illustration.

Ryan Ball, third place, in sports feature writing.

Jordan Bass, first place, and Jay Austin, second place, in sports news.

McCook won the Class B sweepstakes award with 35 points. Other winners in the Class B competition were: Columbus Scotus, 15; Omaha Gross, 15; Gering, 13; Wavery, 12; Fairbury, 9; Nebraska City, 9; Pierce, 3; and Wayne, 3.
