Entrance closed

Tuesday, June 3, 2003

Dear Editor,

I'd like to know why the state road crew closed the west drive of Mt. Hope Cemetery, Beaver City, the weekend before Memorial Day, rather than repairing it a week or so ago.

It was reported earlier that there was a hole in that drive.

The American Legion or VFW always have Memorial Day services and there are a number of people who come to the services and to decorate graves. This made it inconvenient for them.

Earnest Stalder,

Adjutant

Beaver City

Editor's note -- A Nebraska Department of Roads spokesman said repair crews thought they could have the driveway repairs completed on the Friday before Memorial Day, but the needed repairs turned out to be more than could be accomplished in one day.

The driveway then had to be blocked to prevent motorists from becoming stuck. The main driveway remained opened for Memorial Day services, however, and the entry in question has been repaired.
