Gazette readers overwhelmingly agreed with the decision to go to war with Iraq, and nearly seven of 10 felt the war was justified, whether or not Saddam Hussein had weapons of mass destruction.

The following are this week's online Feedback responses to the question:

What is your opinion of the war in Iraq?

There were no weapons of mass destruction, and the war was unjustified. 27 percent, 32 votes.

Even if there were weapons of mass destruction, the war was unjustified. 4 percent, five votes.

The war was justified, and weapons of mass destruction eventually will be found.

9 percent, 11 votes.

The war was justified, even if weapons of mass destruction are never found.

60 percent, 72 votes.

The following responses were called into the Gazette's Speak Out line, (308) 345-7874:

Never were WMDs

There were never any weapons of mass destruction. The war was unjustified."

How dare you!

How dare you ask the general public to second-guess our military intelligence, Colin Powell or Bush, who had the courage to carry this out.

"Was the war in Iraq justified?"

Wasn't 9-11 enough for you? All those innocent lives and life-altering injuries, the terror and all those who will die horrible (deaths) from asbestocis and other lung diseases after having breathed that dust that terrible day.

You who have your head in the sand with your ... tush ... in the air to be shot off! While you are down there, it might be wiser to thank God for those special dedicated people who are out there protecting you and our country from insane terrorist types. You question giving Iraq a "back off message" because we don't want this in our children's lives. You there on the patio with your feet up and a cool one in your hand, or out enjoying the lake ... get a job or a life instead of criticizing those who do have a job and (are) doing a good job of it.

Knowingly lied

Another big surprise; according to a guest on Bill Moyer's program Friday, June 13, Bush, Cheney, Powell, Rice and Rumsfeld knowingly lied to the American people by repeatedly stating that Saddam had weapons of mass destruction that he was going to unleash on the world at any time.

The above five were warned by intelligence that this allegation was truth. Argus Hamilton said months ago that there was now honor and integrity in the White House.

Could he be lying too?
