McCook Rebels 16 and under softball downs Gothenburg, Lexington Sparks

GOTHENBURG -- The McCook Rebels girls 16 ands under fastpitch softball team won two games in a triangular Thursday at Gothenburg.

The Rebels defeated Gothenburg 8-1 and the Lexington Sparks 4-2.

The Rebels play at Holdrege Saturday and host a doubleheader against Ogallala Tuesday.

In the first game against Gothenburg, the Rebels' bats came alive with 13 hits and committed just one throwing error.

Andrea Soden had a double and a single. Stephanie Douglas, Taryn Plazcek and Kim Serbousek each had 2 singles.

Jillian Bryant, Ashlee Huffman, Lindsey Lawson, Kala Smalley and Kayla Wilson each singled.

Taryn Plazcek and Stephanie Douglas shared pitching duties. They allowed four hits, walked four and struck out five.

In the Lexington game, the Sparks scored two runs on four hits in the bottom of the second inning.

In the sixth inning, Douglas, Andrea Soden and Lawson combined on a 1-3-2 double play for the second and third outs.

Offensively, Douglas, Serbousek and Wilson each had two singles.

Bryant, Courtney Carter, Huffman and Soden each had singles.

Plazcek and Douglas shared pitching duties again. They allowed six hits, walked one and struck out four.
