Bison boys tennis sweeps Hastings

The McCook High School boys tennis team opened the home portion of its schedule Thursday at Bison Courts by sweeping all nine varsity matches from Hastings.

The McCook junior varsity team split 12 matches with the Tigers.

Winning varsity singles matches against Hastings were:

Joel Putz, No. 1, 8-6 over Matt Carper; Jordan Bass, No. 2, 8-3 over Greg Keale; Brandon Crick, No. 3, 8-4 over Travis Bronson; Brad Potthoff, No. 4, 8-2 over Kelly Light; Brett Burton, No. 5, over Kyle Martindale 8-2; and Harrison Ford, No. 6, 8-2 over Dennis Voelker.

Winning varsity doubles matches were:

Bass-Potthoff, No. 1, 8-3 over Bronson-Keale; Putz-Crick, No. 2, over Voelker-Martindale 8-2; and Burton-Ford, No. 3, 8-0 over Carper-Light.

"What a great performance to start out the first home matches," said McCook tennis coach Matt Wiemers. "The team totally dominated Hastings.

"There wasn't one individual player that played well -- they all had solid matches. "We continue to show improvement and the guys have a lot of confidence and poise.

"Winning all three doubles matches to start the duel was huge. All three teams played well and got off to early leads. We did a great job of communicating and working together."

Winning JV singles matches were Aaron Nix, No. 7, 6-2; Andrew Howell, No. 8, 7-5; Kasey Clapp, No. 9, 6-0; and Michael Sinclair, No. 10, 6-2.

Nos. 11-14 singles players Brian Friehe, Mitchell Sellers, Evan Koetter and Jarod Olson all lost.

Winning JV doubles matches were Nix-Sinclair, No. 4, 6-2; and Howell-Clapp, No. 5, 6-1.

Dropping JV doubles matches were Friehe-Sellers, No. 6; and Koetter-Olson, No. 7.

The Bison varsity hosts Hershey at 2 p.m. Tuesday, followed by a JV dual at 4 p.m.

McCook competes at the York Invite at 11 a.m. Sept. 12.
