DC-S Tigers tear up Irish, Trojans rebound with shutout win over May-Hay

NORTH PLATTE, Neb. — The recent Irish basketball success certainly didn’t follow into football agianst unbeaten Dundy County-Stratton Friday night. Unbeaten DC-S roared to 6-0 as senior Ethan Latta totaled 227 yards and three touchdowns on his return from a recent injury. Senior quarterback Dante Horner also threw three TDs among his awesome nine-for-10 passing effort. The Irish had won four of five but could not stop Latta, who averaged almost 10 yards per rush (11 for 109) along with almost 30 per pass reception (four for 118). Latta caught two TDs with senior August Shaw catching another among his two for 42 yards. Horner totaled 303 yards — 207 passing, 96 rushing — including one more 33-yard strike to sophomore Breck Horner. The DC-S defense also featured Latta picking off two St. Pat’s passing. Junior Cooper Shaw forced an Irish fumble. Coach Michael Spargo’s boys can reach 7-0 at Alma this weekend. Southwest 61, Med Valley 14 CURTIS, Neb. — Southwest featured five Roughriders teaming to score eight touchdowns during their fifth consecutive win on Friday. Junior Jacob Barber only needed four carries to reach pigskin paradise three times while gaining 77 yards. Senior quarterback Houston Billeter had an even more efficient ration: two carries, 60 yards and two TDs. How about passing? Billeter two throws, two completions and two TDs. Senior Braxten Hammond caught a 43-yard Billeter throw while junior Deric Kelley rumbled 42 yards with his one TD catch. Freshman Conner Weaver added 42 yards on five rushes including one more six-point journey. The Roughriders (5-0) dominated on defense behind junior Gage Hammond’s 13 total tackles (seven solos) with two being in Med Valley’s backfield. Hammond made 10 stops, senior Damario Koetter seven and Billeter six. Cambridge 30, May-Hay 0 MAYWOOD, Neb. — Senior Brayden Miller put the boom on a dominating Cambridge defensive effort as his 14 total tackles featured seven solos and two for loss against Maywood-Hayes Center Friday night. The Trojans made 10 tackles behind May-Hay’s line with junior Ben Harris blasting through to four. Senior quarterback Micah Gerlach directed a brilliantly balanced 423-yard offensive attack: 185 passing and 238 rushing. Gerlach’s 77 yards included one touchdown to go with senior Krayton Ruggles gaining a Trojan-best 85 rush yards on 14 carries. Meanwhile, senior Brady Ahlemeyer caught TD passes from Gerlach covering 62 and 44 yards. Miller added 32 receiving yards and senior Hodge Raburn 30 both on two pass receptions. Besides Harris and Harris, Gerlach made another two tackles for loss among his 10 total stops (seven solos). Seniors Colton Perks and Trev Burke added one tackle for loss each. S-E-M 63, Wau.-Palisade 33 SUMNER, Neb. — Junior Jordan Scoville’s six touchdowns topped his almost 20-yard-per-carry average Friday. Scoville gained 291 yards on only 15 attempts for Sumner-Eddyville-Miller. The Mustangs were 2023 Six-Man state champions and runner-ups last fall. Wauneta-Palisade (4-1) was tied at No. 1 for power points among Six-Man teams. The Broncos fell even tough junior Krayton Wiese (146 yards) and senior Kameran McCrumb (120) both scored two rushing TDs. Junior David Bryner broke loose for another 65-yard Broncos score. Sophomores Ayden Baker (six total tackles) and Aaden Wheeler (two for loss) topped the Bronco defense. Rawlins Co. 56, Stockton 0 STOCKTON, Kan. — The Rawlins County Buffaloes rumbled to their third win behind sophomore quarterback Dominique Paz’s 111 rush yards and three touchdowns on Friday. Sophomore Raeth Worthy also accounted for three TDs with his lone pass being a seven-yard score to soph Luke Sis. Sophomore Tanner Lankas ripped to 95 rush yards and one score. Alma 36, Arapahoe 34 ARAPAHOE, Neb. — Senior Hayden Sich’s 214 rush yards (one TD) and junior Briggs Hill’s 147 (two TDs) helped Arapahoe build a 34-22 lead until Alma rallied late Friday night. Sich’s 45-yard interception return gave the Warriors (1-5) a 26-14 advantage. Yet Alma quarterback West Bennett rallied to throw five TD passes. His six-yard strike to Isaiah Neal gave Alma the winning points. Arapahoe was not able to complete any of five pass attempts. The Warriors fell short even though Hill and Sich both picked off Cardinal passes.
