My mother was an optimist. It couldn't have been fun, packing up a family of seven every 7-8 months to move yet again, but she did her best to make a game of it, once packing the lot of us into an oversized box with the promise that she would send us to Timbuktu if we didn't stay out of her way. I can still hear the childish giggles, inside and outside of the box...

New CBS crime thriller an unpleasant copy

If the drama department at CBS has done one thing extremely well over the last decade, it's been their ability to develop a successful -- and extremely repeatable -- formula for a hit hour-long crime drama. I know I'm simplifying the equation here, but it does boil down to this: take a law enforcement team numbering a half-dozen or so, put them in office environs, surround them with technology that Batman and James Bond would envy and let them loose on the bad guys...

It was disappointing but no surprise that while Nebraska gained about 100,000 people, it was at the expense of those of us not living near the major population centers nor along Interstate 80. Officially, Southwest Nebraska lost about 2,000 people over the last decade, ranging from a loss of 393 people in Red Willow County (11,448 in 2000, 11,055 in 2010) down to Hayes, down 101 people (1,068 in 2000 to 967 in 2010)...

The Indians swept two games from the Hastings College junior varsity in the first home games of the 2011 season for MCC.
