Reginald Bennett was 21 when he got hit on the head with a bottle during an altercation between a group of friends and strangers. Without thinking, he threw a rock at the man who might have hit him with the bottle. The man, 54-year-old James Sloan Jr., stumbled and fell down a stairwell. HASTINGS -- The scores from the Monday, Aug. 23 season-opening games for the McCook High School girls softball team might have been a bit deceiving. The Bison girls traveled to Hastings to face Norris and Beatrice in a battle of the state's top-ranked Class B teams at the Bill Smith Softball Complex.
