Now's not the time to save your money -- if it's tied up in the form of a gift card or prepaid debit card. That's because the clock is ticking on the value of that plastic, and you might wind up with nothing -- nothing you can use, that is. Kudos to State Sen. Bill Avery, who has introduced LB720, which will require businesses to offer a cash or check option whenever they offer an incentive program that uses a prepaid debit card...

New year brings chance for new start

I heard a story once about a little boy who, while working on an art project, made a mistake in what he wanted to depict. He walked up to his teacher's desk and presenting the ruined page asked for a new piece of paper to start again. Sometimes I feel just like that small lad. After we have finished one old year, we come ask for a new piece of paper to start a new one. On January first Christmas now becomes not just one week away but a whole year away and the wait starts all over again...
