HOXIE, Kansas -- Elsie Wessel, 95, died Thursday (July 7, 2011), at Sheridan County Health Complex.

She was born March 26, 1916, in Angelus, Kansas, to Henry and Anna (Ostmeyer) Schwarz. She was raised on a farm near Angelus and received her education in Angelus.

On June 1, 1936, she married L. W. "Libo" Wessel in Angelus. They farmed east of Selden, Kansas. She was a homemaker

She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Altar Society and the Senior Center in Selden.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a son, Art Wessel; a daughter, Mary Dellere; brothers, Alex, Harry, Fred and George Schwarz; sisters, Mary Wessel, Anna Bange and Louise Schroeder; a grandson, Bobby Wessel; and a son-in-law, Rick Hickert.

Survivors include sons, Robert and wife, Pat Wessel of Selden, John Wessel of Selden and Bill and wife, Carol of Dresden, Kansas; daughters, Kathryn and husband, Bill Schieferecke of Studley, Kansas, Marie and husband, Gene Blaske of Salina, Kansas, Martha and husband, Fred Wassemiller of Monument, Kansas, and Betty Hickert of Selden; a sister, Hilda Moellering of Hoxie; 31 grandchildren; 46 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren.

Services are 10:30 a.m., Monday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Selden with the Rev. Mark Berland officiating. Interment is at the Selden Cemetery.

Visitation is Sunday, 1-5:30 p.m., at Pauls Funeral Home in Selden; and from 6-8 p.m., at the church with a vigil service at 7:30 p.m.
